Dr Chris Freelance
I am an evolutionary biologist whose research investigates comparative morphology and sensory ecology to understand adaptations to changing environments, with experience in applying research outcomes to biological conservation frameworks and to both animal and human health contexts. I have used a range of techniques including optical and electron microscopy, histology, behavioural assays, reciprocal transplant experiments, common garden experiments, and phylogenetic comparative analyses.
An award-winning science communicator, presenter, and leader, I’m passionate about scientific literacy and deliver high-impact engagement with diverse audiences.
At the Melbourne Histology Platform, I manage physical infrastructure and a team of technical experts to support academic and industry researchers to utilise histology, light microscopy, and related techniques in their experimental designs. I’m passionate about evidence-based strategy and broadening the utilisation and impact of research infrastructure capabilities.
I am also an Editor for the journal Austral Ecology.
